As most people will know, the Children & Families report on the statutory public consultation was issued earlier this month. It recommended the Department’s preferred option for new build at Fountainbridge see previous post The report and its associated recommendation will now be debated at a full Council meeting next Thursday, June 28th.
Since publication of the report, the Parent Council (PC) and New School Subgroup (NSSG) have been working very hard to consider its implications and to formulate our response. We have identified three main areas to particularly highlight:
1. The inadequacy of the proposed capacity of 1150
2. The detrimental impact of the proposed site layout
3. The opportunity for outdoor sports facilities at Harrison Park East
These issues are outlined in some depth in a submission document which you can read here BHS Parent Council Deputation to CEC – 28 Jun 2012 . Our submission will be circulated in advance to all Councillors and we will speak to it in a ‘Deputation’ which will be heard before the report is formally debated. Since Stew Green, PC Chair and Simon Braunholtz, Vice Chair are both away next week, our Deputation will be led by Alison Dunnett, NSSG Chair and supported by Nicki Innes, NSSG member.
We will of course report back to parents on the outcome. If in the meantime, you feel you would like to attend the Council mtg personally, you may do so – all members of the public are entitled to attend Council meetings as spectators. The meeting will be held in the City Chambers and starts at 10am. You can access the full Agenda and papers – which include our own – here.
