The Parent Council hosted a very enjoyable and successful social after the May PC meeting last week.  The event, which was held in the Atrium, was attended by over 50 parents, staff, pupils and councillors who took the opportunity to toast David Dempster, our new Head, and to say farewell and thanks to Jack Hamilton, who has been BHS Head since January 2000. Tony Carbery ex Vice Chair of the PC and previously Chair of the Curriculum sub-group kindly attended to make the speech to Jack and we presented him with a card and framed montage of pics of the school building.
It was an excellent evening and both David and Jack have been in-touch to thank everyone.  Jack’s message below is a heartfelt appreciation of the school and the evening.   You can see more pictures of the evening in our Gallery here
Dear Stew
Just a brief note to Thank you, The Parent Council and The PTA for an excellent evening topped by Tony’s kind words, the  very thoughtful gift  and hilarious card.

Please pass on my Thanks to all involved in making it a very special and memorable evening for me.   I may be working in C and F but my heart will always remain in Boroughmuir.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.
JACK

Following the recent formal appointment of David Dempster as Head Teacher, the Parent Council are planning a small social get-together following the next PC meeting on May 7th.  The event will both mark David’s appointment and also allow us to say a formal “goodbye” and “thank you” to Jack Hamilton, our previous Head.
The event will take place in the Atrium at 7.30pm, immediately following the main PC meeting.  NB In order to accommodate this schedule, the PC meeting itself will commence at the slightly earlier time of 6pm in Room 1.15.
As usual, all parents and carers are welcome to either or both events.   No formal requirement to RSVP but if you do know in advance that you are intending to attend the social then a quick note to pcsecretary@boroughmuir.org will be a help to us in planning numbers.
Thanks

Can you contribute to the school ‘Speed Date a ……. ‘ Jobs Fair?
After the success of last years ‘Speed Date a Scientist’ the school is planning a further careers event for the new S5 and S6 cohort of pupils on Tuesday 11th June, 6.30 – 9pm.

The intention this year is to broaden the event to encompass a wider range of jobs and careers (not just science) and there are already a large number of volunteer parents and carers involved – between them representing a wide cross-section of occupations.
It would however still be helpful to have more volunteers in the following fields:
    -  Sport
    -  IT
    -  Languages
    -  Engineering / Architecture
If you are enthusiastic about your work and have an ability / willingness to engage young people in a conversation about it, the school would very much like to hear from you.  Please contact Barbra Stewart at the school office.
Further details and the reply form to send to Barbra (note spelling) can be found here
Thank you
